How to Love a Builder Lover

Doing is how love reaches you.

Your profile

You mentioned it once. Not even complaining — you said it out loud on a Tuesday and forgot about it. And then it was handled, and nobody made an announcement.

You could probably name the thing right now.

That's how it gets in with you. Somebody thought about your life when you weren't in the room, and then they showed it.

And you do it constantly. You're the one who already booked it. You noticed the thing was almost out and replaced it before anybody said anything. You leave early because you already know the parking is bad.

So you figure it matters. That anybody would know what it means when you handle something.

And when it fades, it doesn't announce itself either. You just notice the week got heavier, and you've started keeping a count you never meant to start.

Okay, here's your secret wish. You want the thing you said once to be handled — and you never want to have seen it coming.

If you ask, it feels like a favor. If it's just done, it feels like love.

What to say

None of these ask for anything. You're admitting something.

Then leave it sitting there.

What to do

Just be you. You're the one who already handled it. That's what people notice.

Enjoy and celebrate everybody. You see it and you handle it. That's just how it is.

Only fall in love with your match. With somebody who's already looking for what needs doing, none of it is work. They were going to notice anyway.

Glow with how good it feels. When somebody gets it right, let them see it land. That's how they know they got there.

Let somebody take one off you. Handing one over isn't asking. It's letting somebody in.

What not to do

Don't ask or coach someone to change. You can hand somebody a list. It's never the same as them noticing.

Never criticize, get mad, or worse. Nothing ever got handled better that way.

Never fault someone for not being different — and that includes you. Doing is just how it works for you. Everyone's got theirs.

For the long run

If you've ever felt like you were asking for too much — that wasn't you. It was the match. With your true match, it isn't effort. It's just who they are.

And it goes quiet on its own. Nobody decides that. Everybody gets busy, the week fills up, and one day you're carrying all of it.

So you do one. The small thing somebody mentioned in passing and doesn't know you caught. You might get on with it and say nothing — everybody defaults to that. Let them see it anyway, and watch their face. You'll know in a second.

Or just say let's go out. One night a week, on the calendar, actually protected. It's time to feel special, and the list keeps until morning.

And somebody will start handing things back before you've asked.

So handle one small thing. Then let somebody handle one of yours.
